The Electropathic Lady is inspired by the dance films of Loïe Fuller, The Electropathic Lady is a film-less cinematic choreography, an agitated levitation piece, a living unexpiring firework, an epileptic astrological constellation of lights. Set by the riverside, a floating performer shimmers with hysterically convulsive lights, photo-graphically writing herself into the dark. In her constant motion she becomes an embodiment of filmic principles. The Electropathic Lady takes on the 19th century idea of the female body as particularly electrically performative, at once a pathological nervous condition, an exceptionally magnetic medium, and a seductive optical apparition. The performance also evokes to the history of cinema and optical illusion, the searchlight, the lighthouse, the telegraph, strobe lighting and photocomposition.
