Light Night: Hermelinde Hergenhahn - Day In Day Out

Hermelinde Hergenhahn explores human hopes and fears. She looks at reality with relentless humour and ambiguity. Playing with languages, media and different styles ranging from classical drawing to comics. She describes her approach as critical nearness

For Light Night Hermelinde presented Day In Day Out, a traveling video-installation developed for public space to be always site-specific. Day In: uses a traditional Dutch spy-mirror to film a frame of the street below with a video camera. Day Out: the footage collected each day is projected to exactly the same spot that night. The location projected on itself brings two moments in time together and creates a hyper-real space. The images of the video enter into a visual dialogue with the City and generate an accessible archive of the location.

Born 1960, Neuwied/Rhein, Germany. Hermelinde lives and works in Amsterdam and Frankfurt/Main. She has had group and solo exhibitions in Europe, the United States and Asia, has realised many works in public spaces, and is represented in public, corporate and private collections in Europe.
