Harald Smykla

Harald Smykla rejuvenates that academic staple known as the overhead projector or OHP. During Light Night, it will serve him to transform spaces near the river Hull by way of Reprojection. This paradoxical process of drawing with light - photo-graphic in more than the term's literal sense - merges actual space with its graphic representation. A reverse drawing is created by the artist tracing OHP illuminated site features with the shadow of his pen in hand. Smykla's immersive light performance plays with notions of time and space, presence and absence to mesmerising effect.

Harald Smykla is a German-born, London based cross-disciplinary artist. Pictorial notions still inform the ephemeral, site, time, context, specific and frequently collaborative practice he has embraced since the mid-nineties. He has exhibited and performed across the UK and Europe.
