Light Night: Karen Logan

Hundreds of tiny lights, manufactured for night fishing, are installed in the underpass of the A63. These lights emit a vivid luminous yellow/green glow. The duration of the installation is dictated by the light's lifespan. The intention is to disrupt the viewer's perception of the space by creating the illusion of a continuous, unbroken line, hovering within the underpass. This line will appear joined when viewed from a specific point and will break up upon moving from this point.

The underpass is an uninhabited space created by the road overhead. It is deep and dark, at the back where the floor curves upward and the roof curves down. You need to crouch; it becomes a place to observe and be unnoticed, a lair. Within this concrete setting there inhabits an uncanny sense of shelter and safety twinned with a desire to escape.

Born London, 1971, Karen Lives and works in London. Recent shows include: Knitwit, London Metropolitan University; Open Studios, N17 Studios, London; Creative Connections, The Whitechapel Art Gallery, London; House Hold, The House Gallery, London.
